Producing 1.5 million units.. A national brake pad production plant enters service

The Prime Minister, Sifi Gherib, oversaw this Wednesday, in the municipality of Reghaïa, in the wilaya of Algiers, the commissioning of the brake pad and accessories production plant as part of supporting national industry and strengthening the production of automotive spare parts.

A statement from the Prime Minister's office reported that the annual production capacity of the plant is estimated at about 1.5 million brake pads, enabling it to contribute to meeting the needs of the national market, limiting reliance on imports, and increasing the local integration rate, in addition to providing jobs, developing national expertise, and strengthening the position of mechanical industries within the national industrial fabric.

The realization of this industrial project comes in implementation of the directives of President Tebboune aimed at valuing assets recovered within the framework of corruption cases, reintegrating them into the national economic cycle, and transforming them into productive, profitable projects capable of creating added value.

The same source explained that this industrial unit, belonging to the Eastern Maintenance Company, a subsidiary of the Industrial Group of Cement of Algeria (GICA), is among the promising projects in the field of mechanical industries, given its specialization in the manufacture of brake pads and their accessories intended for cars and trucks.

The statement added that this industrial edifice would contribute to meeting part of the national market's needs, reducing the import bill for these components, strengthening the local integration rate, and supporting the after-sales service sector, in addition to opening promising prospects for marketing national products in foreign markets.

In a related context, the inauguration ceremony witnessed the signing of two industrial cooperation agreements; the first between the Eastern Maintenance Company and "Stellantis Algeria", and the second between the Eastern Maintenance Company and the Algerian company "Idenet" (Idenet SARL).

The two agreements fall within the framework of developing economic partnerships, supporting industrial subcontracting, and strengthening the positioning of the national product in the local market.

In a speech on the occasion, the Prime Minister confirmed that all instructions had been given to the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency to encourage investment in the production of automotive spare parts.

Sifi Gherib explained that after the recovery of the M'sila and Batna units, and then the brake pad and accessories production unit in Reghaïa, the rest of the assets will be recovered according to the established schedule.

The Prime Minister stressed that the production of brake pads and their accessories must take into account the highest quality standards, to ensure the safety of vehicle users.
